Bitcoin for Space Proof-of-Transit Timestamping (PoTT)

Enabling secure interplanetary Bitcoin payments through cryptographic transport evidence. No changes to Bitcoin required.

The Challenge: Interplanetary Bitcoin

Earth-Mars communication faces fundamental physical constraints:

  • 3-22 minute light speed delay between planets
  • Regular communication blackouts due to orbital mechanics
  • Intermittent connectivity through space communication networks
  • Bitcoin's instant consensus model incompatible with planetary distances

These challenges make traditional Lightning Network payments impossible between planets.

Our Solution: PoTT Systems

PoTT Systems introduces Proof-of-Transit Timestamping - a cryptographic layer that provides tamper-evident evidence of data transport across space networks.

Transport Layer Security

Cryptographic receipts prove message delivery timing and authenticity

Bitcoin Preservation

Zero changes to Bitcoin's consensus, monetary policy, or scripting system

Space Network Ready

Compatible with DTN protocols, optical communications, and LEO satellite networks

How PoTT Works

PoTT is a cryptographic receipt layer for deep-space transport. Each relay hop issues a signed, hop-timed receipt bound to the hash of Bitcoin data (headers, filters, transactions, Lightning updates).

1

Initiate Payment

Lightning payment initiated on Earth (or Mars) with extended timelocks for interplanetary delays

2

Transport with Evidence

Data traverses DTN relays; each hop generates tamper-evident PoTT receipts with timestamps

3

Verify & Settle

Watchtower verifies receipts against independent time beacons and physics-based delay envelopes

PoTT adapts transport + Lightning policy, not Bitcoin's L1 consensus.

Recognition & Validation

"Bitcoin is the money for space and Mars. It's multiplanetary money."

Why PoTT Works

Evidence-Based Security

Splice-resistant custody chain with auditable arrival-time proofs

Physics-Aware Design

Timelock math matches OWLT + jitter; safe during conjunction

Composable Architecture

Works with LN, sidechains, watchtowers, DTN, and space comms

Privacy by Design

Minimal timing exposure; reveal-on-dispute workflow

Bitcoin-Native

Zero consensus changes; out-of-band evidence layer

Space-Ready

Compatible with DSN, optical, and LEO infrastructure
